The Hall of Great Harmony (Taihe Dian) is the central uilding in the Imperial Forbidden City. Most important imperial ceremonies, such as cronations, took place here. Because the hall sheltered the imperial throne, the building was also known as "Jinluan Dian" - "Hall of the Golden Throne." The hall was originally constructed in 1420, during the Ming Dynasty, but it had to be rebuilt after several fires. The existing structure was erected in 1695, in the early years of the Qing Dynasty.
