Taiwan Sells to Mainland China
In spite of all the talk about separating itself from China, Taiwan has become increasingly dependent upon the Chinese market for its economic well-being. Statistics recently issued by Taibei indicates that Taiwan now has the world's highest dependency rate in terms of exports to Mainland China. Last year, Taiwanese goods sold across the Taiwan Strait accounted for 19.6% - or about one-fifth - of Taiwan's total exports. This compares to the 9.1% in 1991.
Those countries follow Taiwan in export dependency on China: South Korea (12.0%), Japan (7.7%), Australia (6.2%), Malaysia (4.1%), European Union (2.9%), and U.S.A (2.6%).
As for market share, Japan is still the largest exporter to China (17.58%), followed by Taiwan (11.23%), U.S.A. (10.76%), South Korea (9.61%) and Germany (5.62%). Back to China Notes and News
