(Really) Old Lady Looks Good
Xinzhui was a noble lady - the wife of a prime minister - who lived in the Han period (206 B.C. - A.D. 220). When, in 1972, Chinese archeologists came across the tomb in which she was buried and excavated it, they found the womanĄŻs remains had been very well preserved, in spite of the two millennia that had elapsed. The body still had fluid in it, not mummified; her flesh and skin were still tender, and ever her fingerprints could still be identified.
This year is the 30th anniversary of the excavation that brought Xinzhui back to the daylight, and a Chinese forensic expert recently drew and released a few sketches showing how the lady, while alive, must have looked at various ages: Picture 1 Picture 2 Picture 3 Back to China Notes and News
