Shanghai Hires
At the current time of the worldwide economic slow-down, China seems to be the only place where the dreaded impact was not as hard felt. And in China it is Shanghai, the most dynamic of all Chinese cities, that leads the trend. The continued economic boom in China¡¯s most populous metropolitan area is evidenced by the two recruitment conventions that Shanghai recently sponsored, one in Hong Kong and the other in California¡¯s Silicon Valley, to enlist the best talents there are to sustain and manage the city¡¯s rapid growth.
At the convention in Hong Kong, over 70 Shanghai companies and government offices were present, seeking to fill about 700 positions, mostly in the field of management. These are all very well paid positions, with yearly salaries ranging from 150,000 to 2 million yuan, in a cinty where average pay would be just 30 to 40 grand a year. The recruitment event attracted close to 2,700 hopeful candidates, including local residents of Hong Kong and those from Taiwan, Japan and the United States.
About 30 companies from Shanghai showed up at the convention in Silicon Valley, seeking to fill about 160 technical and managerial positions which carried salaries ranging from 25,000 to 250,000 U.S. dollars. Representatives from 12 venture capital companies based in Shanghai were also at the convention, whose goal was to pick the famed Silicon Valley brains to scout out promising ideas for investment.
