More Foreigners Work in Shanghai
In the first six months of 2002, 31.70% more foreigners applied to work in Shanghai ¨C this according to statistics recently released by the municipal government of Shanghai. In the past three years the number of foreigners working in China¡¯s largest city has increased by an average of 10%.
Over 300,000 foreigners from 119 countries and regions currently reside in. Many of these foreign residents work as executives and managers for businesses that have located themselves in Shanghai to take advantage of the city¡¯s increasingly internationalized economy and comfortable living conditions. Some of these foreign residents are owners of their businesses. It is estimated, for instance, presently in Shanghai there are about 300 bars and restaurants owned and operated by individuals of foreign nationality.
