Two-Thousand-Year-Old Wine Found After conducting various tests, experts in Beijing declared the 50-pound liquid found in an ancient container unearthed outside the city of Xian to be alcoholic drink brewed over two thousand years ago. The wine, sealed in a bronze vessel that was part of a burial set, was discovered in June when archeologists excavated in Shaaxi Province a tomb believed to be that of a nobleman in the early Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD). The liquor has lost much of its alcoholic quality and is no longer drinkable. The particular find, therefore, does not help us a great deal in determining how good, or how bad, wine made two thousand years ago tastes. Back to China Notes and News
