Ancient Musical Instrument Auctioned A zither from the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907) was sold in an auction earlier this month in Beijing. The base bidding price for the thousand-year old musical instrument was 1.5 million Chinese dollars. A bidder who offered to pay 3.46 million became of the new owner of the instrument. Finely decorated with jade, the zither has on its bodies a number of past owners' personal stamps, including one that states "Dearly Treasured and Appreciated by Dongpo Su Shi," refering to the famed poet of the Song Dynasty who lived from 1036 to 1101.
