Hong Kong 5th and Beijing 27th Most Expensive City in the World According to a recent survey conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit, Beijing's cost of living ranks 27th among the 130 cities around the world studied. A year ago Beijing ranked no. 13. Out of the top 5 most expensive cities, 3 are in East Asia. Tokyo and Osaka lead the list as no. 1 and no. 2 respectively, which positions they have held since 1991. Hong Kong dropped from no. 3 a year ago to this year's no. 5. Of other major cities in the world, Paris ranks no. 7, London no. 10, New York no. 13, Los Angeles no. 19, Moscow no. 36, and Sydney no. 40. Back to China Notes and News
