Airport Tax Disappears...Travelers Still Pay Officially known as "Airport Construction Fee," China's airport tax has been in existence for 13 years, ever since 1992. Recently some changes have been made in the way the fee is collected. In the past a traveler had to pay the fee at the airport, right before he checked in to board his plane. Under new regulations, the necessary fee is made part of one’s air ticket - the traveler is charged at the time when he books his flight, without him even being aware of it, to the tone of an old Chinese saying: What you don’t see doesn’t disturb your peaceful mind. The fee is still 90 yuan for international flights and 50 yuan for domestic. Back to China Notes and News
