Hong Kong Disney Set to Open Hong Kong Disney is to open formally on Tuesday, September 2, 2005. The theme park, a joint venture between Hong Kong government and the Walt Disney Company in the U.S., has been in “rehearsal” since August 16. It is reported that among those attending the opening ceremony will be Chinese actresses Gong Li (Red Sorghum, To Live) and Zhang Ziyi (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), and China's Vice President Zeng Jinghong will preside over the event. Located on Lantau Island, Hong Kong, the new theme park is designed to take in 36,000 visitors a day and 30,000 fun-seekers at any given moment during the day. Hong Kong government and local businesses have great hopes for this new addition to the region’s tourist attraction list. It is estimated that the number of tourists who visit Hong Kong will reach 23 million this year and 27 million the next year. A regular admission ticket for an adult on week days is 290 Hong Kong dollars (US$37); for a child, it is 210 (US$27). This makes Hong Kong Disney the least expensive among the sister theme parks.
