Finnair Launches Direct Flights between Guangzhou and Helsinki
On September 5, 2005, Finnair began to operate direct flights from Guangzhou, China, to Helsinki, Finland. Flight AY087 departs from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday and arrives at Baiyun International Airport after 9 hour and 45 minutes. Flight AY088 takes off at Baiyun Airport on evey Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, and arrives at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport after 10 hour 20 minutes.
It was in 1988 that Finnair started to fly between Helsinki and Beijing; in 2002 the airline added Hong Kong to its list of Asian destinations; and in 2003 the route between Helksinki and Shanghai was opened. With its most recent Guangzhou flight, Finnair has continued its continued its expansion in China. Currently Asia accounts for 1/4 of Finnair's worldwide business and China accounts for half of Finnair's Asian business. Back to China Notes and News
