"China in London 2006" Celebration underway
China in London 2006, a festival that celebrates Chinese culture, officially began on January 26 and will continue until the end of March. The celebration, which is organized by groups interested in Sino-British exchanges and sponsored by the municipal government of London, features over 100 events, including art exhibitions, parade, theater, film-screening, food-tasting, lectures and workshops. The celebration of the 2006 Chinese Spring Festival, which falls on January 29 this year, will be part of the festivity. From January 12 to February 5 Madame Tussauds hosts various events to mark the Chinese Year of Dog and provide a preview of Madame Tussauds in Shanghai, which will open this coming summer. The Royal Academy of Arts is presenting an exhibition called "China: The Three Emperors, 1662-1795," which features several hundred pieces of art that demonstrate of the cultural and artistic accomplishments of China during the early Qing dynasty. The treasures will be on display till April 17. A number of Chinese performance groups will also be on hand to participate in the celebration of "China in London 2006." Back to China Notes and News
