American Airlines Will Launch Flights to China
American Airlines, headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, will become the fourth U.S. airline that offers air services to China. On April 2 the air carrier will launch its first flight to China, which departs at Chicago O’Hare International Airport and arrives at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
In 2004 the United States and China signed an aviation agreement to increase the number of U.S. airlines that fly to China. Continental Airlines and American Airlines subsequently won the U.S. government’s approval to join Northwestern Airlines and United Airlines to partake in the world’s most rapidly expanding air-transportation market. American Airlines has been code-sharing with Chinese air carrier China Eastern Airlines.
American Airlines’ flight to Shanghai leaves O’Hare Airport at 11:05 am and arrives at Pudong Airport at 2:15 pm local time. The return flight takes off at Pudong Airport at 4:25 pm and lands at O’Hare Airport at 5:00 pm. To mark the launching of its China service, American Airlines is currently offering low fares for roundtrip trips between Chicago and Shanghai for $625. Back to China Notes and News
