China’s Tourism Officials Emphasize Trustworthiness As tourism continues to grow in China, the country’s National Tourism Administration Agency has recently launched a campaign to improve services provided by travel agencies and other tourism-related businesses. At the core of the campaign is the emphasis on the dependability and quality of the services provided, which is believed to be the key to the further expansion of tourism in China as the country gears up for the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. According to government officials in the field, the most common offenses they uncovered and dealt with are changing itineraries without advance notices to tourists and downgrading promised services. The regulators vow to watch the industry closely and penalize those who violate business standards more seriously so as to protect the reputation of tourism in China. Recently the tourism administration agency and China’s Business Administration Agency jointly drafted a contract which will the standard for all tour operators in the country.
