112 Hotels in Beijing Designated to Serve 2008 Olympics
As the date for 2008 Olympic Games approaches quickly, Beijing is stepping up its preparation for the big international event, including upgrading and reviewing hotel services. So far 112 hotels in the region have been approved by the Beijing Olympic Organization Committee as qualified to serve the games.
According to the Beijing Tourism Bureau, the municipal government office in charge of the sightseeing industry, as of the end of 2005, there are 658 star-graded hotels in Beijing, with a total of 11,000 rooms. Over one hundred new hotels are currently under construction, and the total number of hotels in Beijing should reach 800 prior to the 2008 Olympic Games.
It is estimated that a quarter of a million foreigners would descend on Beijing for the Olympic event, along with about two million native Chinese spectators. Back to China Notes and News
