China’s Customs Sets Limit on Quantity of Publications Travelers Can Bring into the Country
A new regulation issued by China’s Customs set quotas on the quantity of published materials that a traveler can bring into China. A traveler can claim 10 volumes of print materials - books, newspapers and magazines – as items for personal use. If the print materials are multi-volume series, no more than three series per traveler. For audio and video publications, the limit is 20 discs (again, if publications are multi-disc series, no more than three series). Publications that exceed these limits can still be claimed as materials for personal use, but they are subject to custom duties. If the quantity of the published materials being brought into the country cannot be reasonably claimed as personal items, the publications will be treated as imported goods.
