2007 Beijing Road Cycling International Invitational Race to Take Place and Badaling Great Wall to be Closed to Tourists on August 18-19 A number of popular tourist sites outside Beijing will be closed for two days to make way for the 2007 Road Cycling International Invitational Race, whichis scheduled to take place on August 18 and 19. During the period of closure, tourists will not be able to visit the sections of the Great Wall at Badaling and Jurongguan, nor the Ming Tombs nearby. Taking place a year ahead of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the 2007 Road Cycling International Invitational Tournament is nicknamed a “Good Luck Beijing” event. The race follows a route that bypasses some well-known tourist sites in and outside Beijing. The race begins outside Yongding Gate, which used to be a part of the city-wall that encircled Beijing. The riders will then race by Temple of Heaven, Tian’anmen Square, Yonghe Temple, Temple of Earth, remains of Yuan Dynasty city-wall, and Olympic Tower. The race ends at the Great Wall north of Beijing. Back to China Notes and News
