Answer to One China Travel Question
|
| | Q: How much does it cost to ride bus and taxi and to rent a bicycle in Guilin?
| | A: One can rent a bicycle in Guilin or Yangshuo for about 15 yuan (Chinese dollar) a day (approximately 2.5 U.S. dollars). You can also rent by hours. There are many places where you can rent bicycles - Guilin International Youth Hostel, for instance.
Taxies in Guilin charges 7 yuan (Chinese dollar) for a ride under 2 kilometers (about 1.3 miles). For the distance between 2 and 4 kilometer it is 1.6 yuan/km. Above 4 km it is 2.0 yuan/km. Suppose your ride is 6 km, the fare should be 7 + 2 x 1.6 + 2 x 2 = 14.2. Taxies have meters in them, so you don't have to do the calculation. More important, you may want to make sure you know where you want to go and how far away roughly is your destination, so you won't be cheated by a dishonest taxi driver.
The taxi fare above is for the day. For rides that take place between 11:00 pm and 6:30 am, the fares are slightly higher.
Taxies in the city operate within city limits. If you want to venture outside, you may want to make special arrangements. You need to be very careful with what you get into. Best to have someone knowledgeable to help you with this kind of arrangements.
There are shuttle buses between airport and Guilin. A one-way ride costs about 20 yuan.
Most bus rides in the city cost about 1 or 2 yuan. There are also some bus routes that are fare-free.
