A: If you travel by train, the distance between Kunming and Shanghai is about 2,770 km (1730 ml). The train ride lasts 36 to 50 hours, depending on which train you choose to go with. You definitely need a sleeping berth. The trains arrive at Shanghai Nan (Shanghai South) Raiwaly Station instead of Shanghai Railway Station.

If you fly, flight time is approximately two and a half hours.

Kunming is the capital of Yunnan Province, with a population of 4 million. The elevation of the city is close to 2,000 m (6,560 ft) above sea level. Weatherwise, low or hight temperatures are rare in the region, and climate generally ranges from warm and cool (during the summer, average temperature is about 20 C or 68 F; during the winter months, temperature averages around 7 C or 45 F.). Weather does change quickly, and rainfall can bring down temperature by quite a few degrees in a matter of hours.
