Answer to One China Travel Question
|
| | Q: I would like to know long it would take me to travel from Beijing to Zhejiang. Moreover, which means of transport would be quicker to travell with; airplane or train?
| | A: We assume that by Zhejiang you mean Zhejiang Province. The capital of Zhejiang Province is Hangzhou. You can either travel by train or plane to Hangzhou. A train ride from Beijing to Hangzhou lasts anywhere from 14 hours to 24 hours, depending on which train you travel by.
If you fly, flight time between Beijing and Hangzhou is approximately two hours. It takes a little time, of course, to get to and leave the airports. From downtown Beijing it is about an hour's trip to Beijing Capital International Airport. The airport that serves Hanzhou is Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, which is located 27 km from downtown Hangzhou. Driving time from the Xiaoshan airport to Shanghai is 2.5 hours, to Suzhou 1.5 hours, to Wuxi 2 hours, and to Wenzhou 3.5 hours.
Which particular city in Zhejiang you are going to visit affects your choice of means for transportation. For instance, if you're traveling to a city in Zhejiang that is far away from Hangzhou but has direct train service from Beijing, it seems better to travel by train so that you do not have to think about the connection from the Hangzhou airport to you destination city, even though train ride lasts longer than the flight. In that event, get a sleeping berth on the train.
