Q: Can you tell me where in Hong Kong airport I can get the bus to Shantou? Also can you give me the timetable for the bus and how much is the approximate cost? Thanks.
| | A: There do not seem to be express buses from Hong Kong International Airport to Shantou. You need to make connections.
There are buses that depart from Kowloon (part of Greater Hong Kong) to Shantou. The bus seems to stop by Metropark Hotel Mongkok Hong Kong; you may contact the hotel for further information. This means that you travel first to Kowloon, board the bus there, which will take you to Shantou.
One can also first travel from Hong Kong International Airport to Shenzhen, which is the Chinese city bordering Hong Kong. There one should be able to find long distance buses bound for Shantou. There are buses that go directly from Hong Kong Airport to Shenzhen and other destinations in Guangdong Province. These buses do not seem to go as far as Shantou, which is about six hours or so away by bus. One can contact these coach operators at the Hong Kong Airport to ask about theire services to destinations in Guangdong Province. If their buses go as far as Shantou, that would be great for you. If not, then you need to find out about your bus connections, or, alternatively, think about flying. China Southern Airlines operate flights from Hong Kong to Shantou. Flight time is just short of one hour.
