Answer to One China Travel Question
|
| | Q: How far is it from Hainan to Shenzhen?
| | A: Hainan is an island off China's southern coast. It is the second largest island of China, Taiwan being the largest (there are people in Taiwan who believe their island state should be an independent country). Hainan used to be part of Guangdong Province, but it was turned into a province by itself not too long ago.
Haikou is the largest city of Hanan, located on the northern end of the island. By highway the distance between Haikou and Shenzhen is approximately 765km (475 ml). There are flights between Haikou (Meilan Airport) and Shenzhen (Baoan Airport). Flight time is about one hour.
There is no direct train service between Haikou and Shenzhen. There is train service between Haikou and Guangzhou, which is about an hour away from Shenzhen. Train travel time between Haikou and Guangzhou is 10 t0 11 hours.
One can also travel by long distance bus from Haikou to Shenzhen. Take those buses that depart from official long distance bus stations; it is safer to do so.
Another major city in Hainan is Sanya, which is a tourist resort. Sanya is located on the southern end of Hainan island. There are flights between Sanya (Fenghuang Airport) and Shenzhen. Flight time is an hour and twenty minutes. There are train services between Sanya and Guangzhou. The distance between Sanyan and Guangzhou is about 1,160 km (720 ml). Train travel time is 15 to 16 hours. Should get sleeping berths if you travel by train.
There are ferries between Hainan and the mainland.
