Q: What is the cheapest way to get to Guilin from ShenZhen? How long is the journey?
A: You can go by either plane or train from Shenzhen to Guilin. There are four or five flights a day going between Shenzhen and Guilin. A one-way flight costs about US$90 (700 Chinese dollars). Round-trip doubles the amount. To go by train, you go to Guangzhou first, and make a connection there. There are many trains going from Shenzhen to Guangzhou, which is a ride of about one hour. There are bus services too. The train ride between Guangzhou and Guilin lasts about 12 hours. One train leaves Guangzhou in the evening, around 6:00 pm, and arrives in Guilin next morning. A one-way trip costs about US$30-40 (200-300 Chinese dollars), depending on whehter you have a "hard" sleeping berth or a "soft" sleeping berth (the latter features 4-to-a-compartment kind of arrangement and is nicer - reocoomended, given that the price difference is not all that big).
