Answer to One China Travel Question
|
| | Q: How can I get from Changsha to Ningyuan in Hunan Province. We would be there during Chinese New Year, 2006, period of time.
| | A: We assume you're referring to Ningyuan County, Yongzhou Prefectural City, Hunan Province. This place is about 500 kilometers away from Changsha. It is not located on a railway line - the rail line that goes north of the county is about 100 kilometers away from the county town. There is, however, long distance bus service from Changsha to Ningyuan. National-level highway comes to within about 40 kilometers of Ningyuan county town and the rest is provincial-level road (paved, 9 to 14 meters in width). Ningyuan is not one of the places frequented often by foreign visitors, and it's probably a good idea for you to get some local support, maybe in Changsha. Depending on how many of you will travel, it may not be very costly for you to contract a vehicle for yourselves, along with a driver and an English-speaking guide.
