Answer to One China Travel Question

Q: We're planning to visit Qingdao in Shandong Province, after we have visited Mount Tai and Qufu. What would be the best way to from Mount Tai to Qingdao?

A: There is a train link between Taian (the city at the foot of Mount Tai) and Qingdao. If you go first to Jinan, which is the capital of Shandong Province and is located a couple of hours' drive north of Taian, you'll have more train options going to Qingdao. As of this writing, however, the railway between Jinan and Qingdao is under major renovation work, and it is said trains on that line have been running much slower than normal (the train ride used to take just about 5 hours between Jinan and Qingdao). There are also long-distance bus (coach) services between Jinan and Qingdao (between Taian and Qingdao too), which are generally 5 or 6 hours long. Just make sure you get on the nicer ones.
