Q: What is QQ? Some Chinese contacts in China mentioned it.

A: QQ is a popular Chinese instant messaging program. It originated like ICQ. With this program and an accompanying account, one can make a best-friend list to check if someone’s online, to send them messages, to chat with them, etc. Many young Chinese net-surfers nowadays use QQ and will ask for one another’s QQ number. The software was developed and administered by a Chinese IT company called Tengxun (“Flying Message”). The company’s English name is Ten Cent. Why Ten Cent not Ten Cents? We don’t know and don’t give a dime.
