Q: What is the distance from Shenzhen to Shanghai? Is flying the best way to get there?

A: There is no direct train service between Shenzhen and Shanghai. A connection is necessary. One could go to Guangzhou first, which is about one hour's distance away, and get on train there. K48 leaves Guangzhou around 9:00 in the morning and reaches Shanghai about 24 hours later, covering 1,800 kilometers (1,120 miles) in between. A one way ride in a soft berth costs about US$80. It takes some efforts to secure these tickets from the U.S.

There are quite a few flights between Shenzhen and Shanghai every day, from eight o'lock in the morning to nine o'lock in the evening. A one-way flight costs about US$100 (after discount). The flight lasts 1 hour 50 minutes.
