Answer to One China Travel Question
|
| | Q: Are there buses or trains from Wuhan to Kunming?
| | A: There are a number of trains running between Wuhan and Kunming. A few of them are trains that come from elsewhere, stop in Wuhan, and eventually arrive in Kunming. At least one train originates from Wuhan and goes to in Kunming. The difference is the number of tickets availabe in Wuhan. The train that originates from Wuhan departs from Wuchang railway station. Wuhan is actually consisted of three parts - Wuchang, Hankou and Hanyang (that makes Wuhan, right?). There is also a rail station in Hankou; some trains go by that station.
If you are going to take a train from Wuhan to Kunming, you want to get a sleeping berth, ideally a soft berth. The ride lasts 28 to 30 hours, depending on which train you're on. The distance is approximately 1,900 kilometers or 1,180 miles. It is not a very good idea to go this distance by bus, unless you have some other considerations. There are flights too, of course.
