Answer to One China Travel Question

Q: I would like to travel by train from Hong Kong to a city where I can visit the Great Wall. How?

A: Whereas there are other places where one can visit the Great Wall, most people go to Beijing, for obvious reasons. There is train service between Hong Kong (Kowloon actually, which is part of greater Hong Kong) and Beijing. The ride lasts about 24 hours and covers approximately 2,400 kilometers (1,500 miles). One can also go to Guangzhou (Canton) and make connections there.

Outside Beijing there are three sections of the Great Wall to choose from: Badaling, Mutianyu and Simatai. The first is more popular and more crowded than the other two.
