Q: Could you please tell me how far the airports are from the main parts of Shenzhen, Xiamen and Guilin? Do these cities offer good sightseeing?
A: Shenzhen Paoan International Airport is a 40 minutes away from downtown Shenzhen (by shuttle bus). Guilin Liangjiang International Airport is approximately 30 kilometers (20 miles) from the center of Guilin. Xiamen Gaoqi International AIrport is located on Xiamen Island, 10 milometers (6 miles) from downtown. Of the three cities, Shenzhen and Xiamen are not among the "must see" destinations in China for tourists (unlike Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Guilin, Xian and maybe a couple other places), but you're going to travel to these cities, they do offer many tourist opportunities. Shenzhen is a completely new city which before the 1980s did not exist. The rapid rise of the city illustrates the dramatic economci expandsion that is going on in China. Xiamen is a coastal city with many nice views a coastal city ahs to offer, especially on Gulangyu, a small but beautiful island with many lovely vilas and a reputation for the highest piano-people ratio in China.
