Answer to One China Travel Question
|
| | Q: We will attend the canton trade fair in Gunagzhou, after which we plan to take a bus or train whichever is more convenient to Shenzen. We'll stay in Lido Hotel on Beijing Road. What would be the fastest & most convenenient way to go to Shenzen at the earliest possible time?
| | A: You could either go by railway or by long distance bus. Everyday a dozen or so trains depart Guangzhou for Shenzhen. The early ones leave around six or seven o'clock in the morning. The ride is about a hour and half. Most of the trains bear names that begin with "T" or "K," which respectively mean "special" and "fast." They leave from both Guangzhou Railway Station and Guangzhou East Railway Station. Lido Hotel is closer to the former. The hotel is close to subway lines that lead to both railway stations, but subway trains can get crowded, especially during rush hours.
There are also numerous coach services from Guangzhou to Shenzhen. There are a number of bus stations that provide long distance services, the main one being Guangdong Provincial Bus Station, which is located on Huanshi Xilu (City Ring Road West) and is next to Guangzhou Railway Station. The cost is about 60 yuan or so. You want to get on nicer and express buses. Generally train travel is more predictable in China. Train and bus tickets can be purchased five days in advance.
