Answer to One China Travel Question

Q: Can I travel from Guangzhou to Yiwu by Train? How many hours does it take and how can I find out the schedule? Would also like to know the cost and how do I actually booked the trains from Singapore?

A: To get to Yiwu from Guangzhou you can take either K210/211 or 1312. These are the two direct trains and no connections are needed. K stands for "fast" and K210/211 does make fewer stops on its way, but time-wise in both cases the ride lasts about 23 hours. K210/211 departs around 3:00 pm and 1312 around 8:00 pm. A one-way soft berth (recommended) costs about 460 Chinese dollars or US$60. The trains depart from Guangzhou Railway Station (there are other rail statios in Guangzhou). K210/211 is Guangzhou-Ningpo and 1312 is Guangzhou-Nanjing West; Yiwu is en route.

Generally train tickets in China are sold 5 days in advance and you may be able to purchse return tickets. It is difficult, however, to purchase train tickets from outside China, and you may need assistance in securing these tickets, through some travel agency, hotels you'll be staying at, or local friends or relatives.
