Answer to One China Travel Question

Q: Our family will be travelling to HongKong in December. We'll arrive at the airport 8.00pm. How much will it cost to travel from Hong Kong International Airport to Shenzhen by bus? Which bus and how late? Also should we travel from Shenzhen to Xiamen by bus/by train?

A: China Travel Services Hong Kong operate buses that travel from Hong Kong International Airport to the Huanggang border point of Shenzhen. The earliest bus leaves the airport at 7:00 am and the latest 10:00 pm. The cost is HK$150 per adult and HK$100 per child.

There are buses that go from Shenzhen to Xiamen. But given the distance (900 kilometers), it seems to be more comfortable going by train. (Train is also more predictable in terms of service as it is run by the state; with bus, sometimes it depends on which bus you're on). Unfortunately there is no direct train connection between Shenzhen and Xiamen. There are, however, trains that depart from Guangzhou to go to Xiamen. If you want to go by these trains, beware that there are also buses that go directly from Hong Kong International Airport to various destinations in Guangzhou. But of course you may be planning to stop over in both Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
