Q: We are going to Gaungzhou and would like to visit Yangshou for a few days. What are the transportation alternatives for making a trip from Guangzhou to Yangshou not going by air.(bus, boat, train and price, time)
A: By "Yangshou" you mean Yangshuo? Yangshuo is a small town close to Guilin. So you're probably thinking about taking a tour of the Guilin region; that's how people come to Yangshuo - tour around Guilin and take a cruise boat down the Li River to Yangshuo (right now it is off seaon; water level may be low). Yangshuo itself is a very small place. The distance between Guangzhou and Guilin is about 800 kilometers and it is a bit too far to go by bus; you can go by bus but it is a rather long ride. There are trains that go from Guangzhou to Guilin. You can get yourself a soft berth for about 320 yuan. The ride lasts about 13 hours. Should think about how to get the train tickets. And also of course how to organize the tour upon arrival in Guilin-Yangshuo. It does not take "a few" days to tour the area unless you do want to hang around a little - riding bycles around in Yangshuo, etc.
