Q: Hi. What choice do I have to get to XIAMEN from Hong Kong airporty besides flying? What's cheaper way? Thaks.

A: Train, bus, ferry.

If you take train, you need to make a connection in Guangzhou or some other railway station nearby. You can get to Guangzhou from Hong Kong International Airport by bus in two hours or so. The distance between Guangzhou and Xiamen is about 850 kilometers (530 miles) - a 15 hour train ride. A softh berth costs about 300 Chinese dolloars. Train departs from Guangzhou East Station.

There is long distance bus service between Hong Kong and Xiamen. The cost is about the same as what a train ride costs.

There is also ferry service between Hong Kong and Xiamen. One operator is Hong Kong Cruise Ferries. Cost varies depending on class of cabin. Jimei Group also operates cruise line linking the two cities.
