Q: Can you tell me the best way to get from Hong Kong to Nanning without flying?

A: There are three trains that you can take in Guangzhou to get to Nanning - early morning and afternoon departures. It is a 12 hour ride. You can get to Guangzhou from Hong Kong by train, bus or boat. You can also take a long distance bus in Guangzhou (or in Shenzhen) to get to Nanning, but given the length of the trip, train seems to make more sense (get a sleeper berth).
