Q: How long are businesses closed for Chinese new Year?

A: Nowadays people have seven days off for the Spring Festival or Chinese New Year. This normally includes a weekend. Most government offices, etc.,will be closed. Most shops, however, continue to operate, as this is good time for business. If they close, it is most likely on "Chuyi" or "First Day," the beginning day of the lunar year. During the holiday season traffic is also very heavy, on trains, etc., as people travel to join their families or return to their work places.
