Answer to One China Travel Question
|
| | Q: Can an American citizen go to Hong Kong without a China visa and obtain a China visa in Hong Kong? If it's possible how long would it take?
| | A: A U.S. citizen can stay in Hong Kong visa-free for 90 days. One can also apply in Hong Kong for a visa to visit China proper. If you're applying for a visa that is other than a tourist visa, you can go to the office of Chinese Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong, located at 5th Floor, Lower Block, 26 Harbor Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong. Call before you go - (852) 25851657, (852) 25851680, or (852) 25851794. If you're applying for a tourist visa, you can also apply through the Hong Kong branch of China International Travel Service - 1/F, Alpha House, 27 Nathan Road, Tsimshatsui, Kowloon; tel.: (852) 2315 7106. Normally a visa can be secured in one to three days. It would be better of course to have a visa before you leave the U.S., but if you have to get it after arriving in Hong Kong, make sure you know what you'll need and how much time you have to get the visa.
