Answer to One China Travel Question
|
| | Q: Is there sightseeing near Yiwu?
| | A: Yiwu is best known for its small commodities market, and in most cases that's why a foreigner goes there. A county-level administrative unit, Yiwu is not a big place. It is not a tourist destination per se and for sure you wont' find the Great Wall or the Forbidden City there. Still, for a foreign visitor, there are opportunities to observe Chinese life. There are some scenic areas and attractions such as temples (Shuanglin Temple was initially erected 1,500 years ago), but if what you have in mind is something more notable, you may consider a tour of Hangzhou, which is a much larger tour destination 140 kilometers (90 miles) away from Yiwu. There are trains and buses traveling between Hangzhou and Yiwu. It may make take a couple of days to tour Hangzhou, but if you want to take a guick look and return Yiwu on the same day, that can be done too. To tour Hangzhou most efficiently, you may want to enlist the help of a travel agency.
