Answer to One China Travel Question
|
| | Q: I will be arriving in Shanghai on the 1st of February. Since Chinese New Year falls on the 29th of January, will the Xiangyang Market be open? If not are there any alternative places to shop?
| | A: Yes, you will be arriving in Shanghai in the middle of the seven-day-long holiday to celebrate the Spring Festival. You should find many stores open as it's a good time to do business. Xiangyang Market is consisted of numerous small shops operated by independent vendors, so there is certainty if they'll be all open and for hours. Normally the shops are open till 8 to 9 pm. Another clothing and fashion market similar to Xiangyang is Qipulu Fashion Market, on Henan Road, which is more like a wholesale place and prices seem to be lower. At either place on should be alert. Sales push may be rather aggressive, serious bargaining is invovled, and salespeople may not let you go easily.
By the way it is said that Xiangyang market will be relocated and reorganized soon, probably in the middle of 2006. But this is not certain yet.
