Q: I am interested to know if I can get to Ningbo from Hong Kong and back by train. If so, how much and how long it will take. I know there is a train route from Hong Kong to Shanghai that passes Ningbo.
A: The train that run from Kowloon to Shanghai does not go through Ningbo; Ningbo is off route on the coast. Plus the every other day Kowloon-Shanghai train - k100 - is an express train. The express train gets to Shanghai in about 24 hours. Costs anywhere from 600 to 1,000 for a berth. The daily k100a travels from Guangzhou East to Shanghai which does makes stops en route, but not at Ningbo. K210 goes directly from Guangzhou to Ningbo in about 28 hours. Costs about 550 for a soft berth.
