Answer to One China Travel Question

Q: Hi I'm travelling to china and my flight arrives at Hong Kong. I've been told that Shenzhen is a good place to buy and Guangzhou too. I've also been told to go to yiwu which is far from hong kong airport. Which place is worth going to?

A: Yiwu is known for its small commodities market. If you're buying large quantities - for retail for instance, Yiwu would be a good place to go. If you're buy for your own consumption or some gifts for your friends, Yiwu is too far away to make it worthwhile even if you can find some cheaper stuff there. There some good shopping places in Shenzhen and Guangzhou. Right after you cross border and enter Shenzhen you should find a couple of markets where you can do your shopping. It doesn't hurt of course to shop a around.
