A: The cost of long distance bus travel from Guangzhou to Nanning is approximately 200 to 300 yuan. This refers to express bus, air-conditioned sleepers. It takes 10 to 12 hours to get to Nanning, it's a rather long ride. A number of buses depart from Guangzhou during the day, from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm, at several long distance stations - Guangdong Bus Station, Yuexiunan Bus Station, Tianhe Bus Station. Most buses leave in the afternoon or evening, so they're overnight rides.

For a ride this long, rail seems a safer and more comfortable way to travel. Travel time is about 12 hours, and cost is roughly the same as sleeper bus rides, 200 to 300 yuan for hard or soft sleepers (the latter are cabins, four travelers to one). One train leaves early in the morning and arrives in the evening. Two others leave around noon and in the afternoon, so they arrive around midnight and early morning. But on a train you have more space to move about, and it is more predictable and safer.
