Answer to One China Travel Question
|
| | Q: I'm planning to take Yangzte cruise from Chongqing to Yichang. Once arrived to yichang, is there any train service to go back to Chongqing?
| | A: There is no direct train service from Yichang to Chongqing. You can fly from Yichang to Chongqing; flight time is an hour or so. You can also take one of those jetfoil boats back up the Yangtze; the ride takes about 12 hours - departuring Yichang in the early morning and arrival in Chongqing in the evening.
Trains do run between run between Wuhan and Chongqing, Wuhan being the major city downstream from Yichang. You have to take a long distance to get from Yichang to Wuhan, which is a ride of 4 hours if you take one of those express coaches. A fast train gets from Wuhan to Chongqing in about 15 hours.
You can also make your cruise Chongqing-Wuhan instead of Chongqing-Yichang; this, however, means that it's going to be a 5 day cruise instead of 3 day, with relatively few attractions to see on the latter part of the cruise.
