Q: I am planning my schedule from Shantou to Guangzou, from Guangzhou to Zhongshan,
and from Zhongshan to Hongkong. Can you tell me best or shortest way by air or by boat or by train and distance and time?
| | A: From Shantou to Guangzhou, the distance is about 500 kilometers. There is long distance coach service between the two cities. Bus go by expressway and ride time is about five and half an hour. If you take train, it is going to be a ride of 7 to 8 hours. There are trains that leave in the evening and arrive the next morning, and you can get a sleeping berth for yourself, hard or soft. If you fly, the flight time is less than an hour, the cost is about twice as much as a soft berth on a train.
Zhongshan is about an hour and half away from Guangzhou. You can take bus to get there. There is ferry service between Zhongshan and Hong Kong; several baots leave Zhongshan for Hong Kong during daytime. Ride time is approximately one hour and twenty minutes. Shuttle buses take passengers collect passsengers at certain hotels and deliver them to the port to board ship. You can also taken bus to Shenzhen and enter Hong Kong there. Distance between Zhongshan and Shenzhen is 140 kilometers; bus ride time is about two hours and thirty minutes.
