Answer to One China Travel Question

Q: My question is on the guangzhou airport: Is there a bus service which goes to shantou? Or are there any trains or buses which go to shantou? What is the timetable like for them?

A: There are train and bus services between Guangzhou and Shantou, but not directly from Guangzhou Baiyun Airport to Shantou. There are shuttle buses that take passengers from the aiport to various destinations in Guangzhou; ride time is about 40 minutes.

One train departs from Guangzhou Railway Station, around 9:00 in the morning and arrive in Shantou in the evenng (ride time 8 hours). Two other trains depart from other stations and make a stop at Guangzhou East Railway Station; they leave Guangzhou East around noon time and arrive in Shantou in the evening. An one way soft berth on these trains costs about 200 yuan.

Highway route is shorter than railway. There are quite a few bus services between Guangzhou and Shantou, including departures at Provincial Bus Station and Tianhe Bus Station.
