Answer to One China Travel Question

Q: Do Canadian tourists need to have a
visitor visa to enter China?

A: Yes, Canadian tourists need tourist visa to enter China. That is China proper - they can visit Hong Kong visa-free for a period of time. In fact, if the tourists are members of a tourist group going from Hong Kong to the neighboring part of mainland China Shenzhen, they do not have to have to their own visas. Another exception is that citizens of certain countries - Canadian citizens among them - who are transiting through Shanghai can stay for a few days without visa, on the condition that they have tickets for their connecting flights and the visa, if needed, for their next stop after China. But as a general rule, tourists need visa to enter China.
