Answer to One China Travel Question
|
| | Q: I'm considering spending some time at Sun Yat Sen University in Zhuhai. Can you tell me something about the university, the city, and life there?
| | A: Environmentally Zhuhai is a nice city. It is known as a "garden-like" city, with trees, greens and golf courses, and air is generally fresh and clean. This can not be said of most of the Chinese cities. Opened as a special economic zones along with the nearby Shenzhen, Zhuhai has gone down a different route. Whereas Shenzhen has grown into a economic dynamic city of 6 million people, with inevitable crowdedness, traffic jam, hectic pace of life, Zhuhai, like the neighboring Macau, has tried to present itself as a resort. Currently the city, with its neighboring area, has a population of 1.5 million.
We assume you're referring to the Zhuhai campus of Zhongshan University (Zhongshan is Pinyin romanization for Yat-sen). Zhongshan University is one of the top universities in China, established in the early 20th century. The Zhuhai campus of Zhongshan University was founded in 2000. It currently has a student body of 9,000, and offers bachelor's, marster's and doctoral programs. It is 90 minutes away from Zhongshan University in Guangzhou and has a library collection of 250,000 books.
