Answer to One China Travel Question

Q: I'm a malaysian. Do I need visa for entering Shanghai, China? I hold a singapore student pass which expires on 7th of July and I'm to go to china at the end of June, is there any problem?

A: China has some specially arrangement with Singapore by which Singaporean citizens can go to China visa-free. But this applies to Singaporean citizens only. If you hold a passport other than that of Singapore, then you're not covered by that agreement.

Also citizens of a few countries can "transit" through Shanghai for seven days without visa if they have air tickets and visa to the next destination. Malaysia does not seem to be on that list though. So most likely you need visa to enter China. You can apply for your visa at the Chinese diplomatic or consular mission closest to you.
