Answer to One China Travel Question
|
| | Q: I plan to visit China and the cities are: Hangzhou, Wenzhou, Shanghai and Guangzhou. What are the distances among these cities and what is the best travel arrangment?
| | A: In terms of distance from Shanghai, Hangzhou is the closest, Wenzhou is in the middle, and Guangzhou is the farthest. From Guangzhou to Shanghai it is approximately 1,800 km; from Wenzhou to Shanghai it is about 600 km; and the distance between Hangzhou and Shanghai is about 200 km.
Guangzhou, Hangzhou and Shanghai are major cities; Wenzhou is an economically important city, but it is somewhat off major transportation routes. There are direct flights among Guangzhou, Hangzhou and Shanghai. Wenzhou has air links to Guangzhou and Shanghai, but there doesn't seem to flights from Wenzhou to Hangzhou. By train it is a three hour ride from Shanghai to Hangzhou, ten hour ride to Wenzhou, and over 24 hours to Guangzhou.
Depending on your needs, you can enter China through either Guangzhou or Shanghai. One scenario: you arrive in Guangzhou (or Hong Kong), make your way to Shanghai, then Hangzhou, then Wenzhou, and then back to Guangzhou. Or arrive in Shanghai, visit other cities and then exit from Guangzhou. Unless you have your own local support, you probably need help in making your travel arrangements to save yourself time and avoid delays.
